Procrastinate :)

Well, not really. However, I will start with my peppermint growing on a wet paper towel inside a jar. It did not go very well for me. It did not sprout at the same time. As soon as I saw sprout I removed the lid. The paper towel dry very fast and the sprouted ones withered with the dry paper towel. I watered and re-place the lids to let the others sprout and the same happened. I think I need to put the jar in front of my eyes the whole time I am doing this. Yes, all of the seeds are gone and I have no peppermint to show for it. I went to my local farm and bought a two inches high, with a lot of roots peppermint (prostrated).

DH finally agree that I can have part of the front lawn for my herb garden. WHOA! He told me last year that he don't really want garden at the front because he feels somewhat trashy. My answer was, I like to be healthy and grow my own herb to use, I do not care what my neighbors say. I guessed that eventually sunk in and he let me. We covered the grass with black plastic and killed the grass. My herbs are living there for about two weeks now, hmmm..I think. :)

This not actually at the front lawn but the side next to our driveway, the sunniest part morning and afternoon. From what I read, most herb like sunny and well drain soil. I don't know about well drain but it's always sunny and hopefully the sun absorb most of the water. They are thriving, i must say.

Three-fourth of my vegetable garden is planted. I kept trying to sprout seeds inside the house but mostly beans and peas are coming out. I wanted some head start from the weeds the reason I am doing this. However, still no luck. Maybe i am impatient or no green thumb sprouting indoors. Anyway, i decided to use straw to keep the weeds controllable, like you can see at above picture of my tiny herb garden.

I have three types of strawberries in this bunch. I am experimenting to use them as ground cover as well as weed controller. I will see next year if they work.  

Brown Lemongrass

Being born in tropical country I do miss eating tropical fruits and other food. Since the weather is getting warm very fast in my area, I checked my seeds packets and re-checked online on how to plant them. This time I wrote a few guidelines on the envelopes.

While doing so, a lot of videos pop-up about growing from seeds and I saw a few tropical fruits. I don't really know where this people are residing, but if I can get my hand on some dwarf fruit trees I am willing to try it.

Anyway, let's get back to lemongrass. I saw a video of brown no roots bought from Asian store lemon grass. She only put the lemongrass on tall grass with water and the lemongrass grew roots and sprouted new leaves.

I never thought the a brown outside lemongrass will be able to grow like that. Now, I have my eyes for lemongrass in the grocery store. I have seeds last year, and I could not get them to grow. I will post my development here as soon as I able to buy some. More likely I have to drive an hour to get them right now from the Asian store.

Lemon grass growing will be my first project. Along with growing little/tiny seeds of peppermint in warm/wet paper towel. Wish me luck.

Lots of Cleaning

For the yard that is. We did our gravel driveway, put all the rocks that got pushed to the side and the lawn back our driveway. I used the children little hoe, it worked great. We had to fill-up some deep part too, because when DH plowed it during snow, he tend to plow to the left side and the truck tires gets to the soft part.

We also burned a lot of sticks from the trees, string trimmed all the weeds that are growing too fast and put the filter to the swimming pool. Yes, it's still cold and the children is not ready for it yet. However, we are seeing 70 degree F during the day in a few days or in a week.

Our garden spot is not mix yet. If we are lucky and no rain for the next week or so, we will be able to do so, then cover it with black plastic until the weather warm-up.

A few of the blueberry might not come back this year. I don't see any sprout/buds in them. We lost one plum tree and the rest of the fruit trees are doing well, including the one and only Elderberry. I am looking to planting several herb this year and hopefully I can find a place where I don't have to move them again next year. Crossing my fingers. So, how are you this fine spring month?
