Five+ acres of land with one acre tillable for home grown vegetables. If luck permits, I can finally have chickens!Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.comBlogger231125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-57800105530199799952018-03-09T12:14:00.001-05:002018-03-09T12:14:55.074-05:00Offered MadeAs per my last post, I finally got my husband to agree to buy the lot in Suburban Estate, the playground community. We made the offer today and the real estate lady will forward our offer to the owner and if they accept, the lot/land will be ours.

We are going to be a Florida land owner soon. Now we only have to buy a camper, fifth wheel tow behind camper. We are hoping the trail going to the lot is good enough to tow our camper. If not, this will be very costly for us to stay in a camp ground.

We will just have to wait and see. Good luck to us! Very excited!Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-8678223508411372992018-01-29T11:37:00.000-05:002018-03-09T12:15:43.372-05:00Florida Lot

After our vacation in Florida two weeks ago, we (DH & I) are thinking more about getting/buying an acreage down there as a vacation spot for a RV. We are thinking of buying this five acres for $5500. It is a playground for 4 wheelings/shooting rages and such. The only thing is there is no electricity hook ups, water, and septic. Not really sure on how to go about getting those amenities.

But then again if we have RV, all we have to do is drive it to the place to get water and dump the waste water. We will be using propane or gas for everything inside the RV. More research to do before we go ahead with this plan. Maybe one more trip to Florida to see and talk to someone with more knowledge about the regulation inside this club/subdivision.

I am looking forward on planting some coconuts and my warm weather plant collection inside my house right now. I have mango and avocado growing here. I can plant them in the ground down there. No pot for these Asian fruit trees.Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-31864376895538495262017-11-25T08:32:00.001-05:002017-11-28T06:20:05.277-05:00Pumpkin Patch

I am trying to make this as the only source of corn for my family. However, it makes me wonder if I still get the colorful ones even though I selected special colors. I'll found out next year, I guess.

The last few times my family went to Six Flags I didn't bother going. Why you asked? Well, there are many things to consider before I can get of the house.

The night before I need to cook and gather MIL things for the care giver to have the next day. And when the day finally get here, I have to spent a minimum of 15 minutes or more to explain everything. And when my family and I get back, I still need to check my MIL, gather everything on her side of the house and bring them to my side to prevent braking, misplaced, or hidden in places where they are not suppose to be.

So, I decided not to bother going somewhere, doing all the work I do all day in a short time. Have fun I tell them.

Now let's get back to my vegetable garden. I have so much cucumber and tomatoes this year. I made sweet relish, who kinds of bread & butter pickles, tomato soups, salsa dip, & tomato/spaghetti sauce. Right now I have another batch of spaghetti sauce slow cooking on my stove while I am writing this. Hopefully my family will like the homemade version.

I still have potatoes, corns, peanuts, butternut squash, and sweet potato waiting to get harvested. I'm waiting maybe early November I dig the underground ones. I also incorporate some flowers with my gardening this year. I told DH that I can scattered all the seeds I collected and cover our grassy yard with it, hoping the grass will not grow. He just laughed at me, knowing the grass will take over if its not mowed in a week. Well, I can dream, can I?

DH and I also planted forsythia above where my gardens & grassy yard for hedges. I hate not having my children not allowed to go out of the house during school hours in fear of prying eyes and calling what most called authorities because they are not in school. Not knowing they are home school, the damage is done at that point. I want our yard hidden from the road. The hedges are doing pretty well and already have some new leaves. Some are already as tall as my knees. I can't wait until they are as tall as me. My children and I can be outside more then.

I already took the dry vine remain from my snap peas & cucumbers. There are about eight cucumbers left when the vines died and I thought I leave it there until they get bigger. Lo and behold they did not get bigger but ripen. Lesson learned, I should have picked them and make juice instead of having ripe cucumbers. They are good for seeds though, but I already saved the biggest cucumber for seeds for better quality cucumbers for next year or the next. With all the canning and freezing this year, I don't think I will need cucumbers next year. The same goes for tomatoes.

And note to self, when planning on canning something, make sure to plant everything I need for canning. I don't like to buy other ingredients when canning my home grown vegetables, unless its sugar, salt, vinegar or something I can't grow or process.

This is the smaller garden. I got peas, long beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, a lot of medicinal herbs = lambs ear, st. john;s wort, stevia, lavender, thyme, rosemary =, sweet potatoes, onions, garlics, peanuts, chives, eggplants, & marigold as pesticides.

This is the bigger garden. A lot of corns, can be harvested on different months as you can see. I have a tall ones & short ones. Pumpkins, okra, garlics, onions, peanuts, & potatoes. DH tilled this late, so I wasn't sure what to plant here, that is why I just planted what ever I can think of. I will be adding some wild blackberry around the sides. DH bought a rooting powder. I might as well move those berries in the sun. They are hidden in our back yard under very thick canopy of oaks, pines, & maples. I think it will do them some good in the full sun.

To begin, let me show you my garden this year.

My new one this year. We planned on putting an above swimming pool there but we can never do so because of the township I live in. Children have been wanting it, but I don't want to open a can of worms I can't control.

This is how far apart the 2 garden from each other. Maybe soon we can fence in the whole yard and not to worry about this patches of fencing everywhere.

However, it wasn't that bad because my peppers are still fine, along with the lemon grass and ginger.

I left the parsley, lavender, hyssop, and peppermint in the garden. I'm hoping to see them growing in the spring. Last year I brought them inside, but they wither and I had to buy more to plant. We got so much leaves outside, when it gets a little warmer I will gather some and cover those plants I left to keep them warmer.Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-48462570476272315362015-10-05T10:33:00.001-04:002015-10-05T10:36:21.873-04:00Utilizing Our Yard Harvest 2015These are some of my harvest from July to October.
I even freeze chopped tomatoes, even if they look not very appetizing. I just cut off the bad part and the freezer they go. The big tomatoes you can see here are left on the ground from last year and grew unexpectedly. I'm glad they did because grape tomatoes did not taste very "tomatoey" for me when cooked. Adding other type of tomatoes tasted better.

Poor DH got all the hard work in our three days weekend. The first was very nice, it was a working nice day.

The second day was above, hotter than before but not too bad.

The third day, DH was putting the fence around my small garden. The big garden will not be use for vegetables. He change his mind because our children keep asking for a swimming pool. He will get a permit to put it up in the lower part of this yard. We have to run electricity and water there. Of course the township will need to come inside our house to see how we connect them.

Small blueberries bushes, however they already have fruits.

Bigger blueberries. Rain is very stingy this time of year for us. The ground is very dry. I have to water my garden and fruits trees every day.

Close-up of blueberries. I forgot to take a picture of the apples and peaches. The deer almost finish one peaches leaves, they even ate the small fruit on it. Hopefully DH can put the deer netting this afternoon when he gets home early.
I am waiting for DH to buy me some fencing. However, I think I am going out today to pick some sort of fencing. I grew very impatient. Yes, he will do it, but there is a chance I will be planting these on the ground around June.

Yap, I am going to have 2 gardens this year. One for big plants and one for small plants like herbs and strawberries. I'm not sure if I can plant strawberry this year but I am looking forward to it next year.

Above was already mix. We are planning on putting an above pool there last year, but out neighbor being neighborly told us that we will get fined by the township if we do not get a permit to put it up. We don't want to get a permit and until now no pool for the children and I am taking the spot for some vegetables.

This one is not quite done because our tiller is being temper-mental again when DH started mixing it. This is where my chives and onions can be found. I will be adding strawberries and other herbs here. That's all for today.Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-31547188135322543262015-05-07T18:13:00.001-04:002015-05-07T18:16:12.818-04:00A Surprise in my GardenHere they are. I am very happy my chives came back. I didn't brought
it inside the house for the winter, and I am glad because 80% of
what I brought inside died within a month. I think this one was an heirloom.

They already have buds, so more chives for next year. I'll just let the seed falls on the ground. I wish I can do this to all of my herbs. I heard lavender will more likely to survive. I will try it this year. I will cover them with a lot of leaves from our trees and hopefully the lavender can survive our harsh winter. I'm pretty sure my chives will do even better because here I didn't cover it. I simply let it withered. However, they have bulbs, lavender doesn't. I'll find out next year :).

These onions I was really surprise because I thought I killed it last year. The leaves just vanished and I didn't bother checking the ground. And look are they now. These ones will be my very first harvest for this season. I bet they will be big enough at the end of June.

Yes, I can't believe it either that we left those trees in our old property to be chopped down by the buyers. Oh, well. We got the bad deal on that sale. We got force out because we did not made any deals, well we thought they were nice. Yea, that was the last time. We learned our lesson, and the next time (if ever) we sell another house, we know better.

This time we only bought, 3 apples, 3 peaches, 6 blueberries, and 2 grapes on Friday May 2, 2015. I like plums but the Japanese beetles did not live it alone. And I am not very fond of pears, so no pears either. The blueberries, peaches, and apple already have flowers. I'm hoping to get a taste, even one on each this year.

I will add the picture as soon as we put all of them on the ground. Oh, yeah, I started my garden this week. I will be buying little plants just like last year. The warm weather sneaked up too fast, I sowed some seeds on Saturday, but only Okra sprouted so far. And today we barely made it to 60 deg F and very cloudy. I'll find out soon enough if any other will sprout.
DH bought a used 4x4 F350 diesel truck with a plow for our driveway. Yes, his been wanting one since we move here at Chestnut Ridge Farms a year ago. Having our first winter with a lawn mower plow was pretty hard for him. At one point we were almost snowed in, but luckily the snow forecast change to nothing that time.

He got it all inspected at our local garage and it looks like he made a good deal buying it. There are some things needs fixing, but they are minor to him. He's pretty happy with the purchase. Plus my whole family can fit in it. I can't wait to take to Long Island Beach Park in NJ this summer. We can finally drive straight to the beach. No more walking carrying all the things we need. O yea, we like to beach when there is not much people around us, so we goes to the farthest part of the beach.Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-11028032754576336462014-06-26T19:40:00.001-04:002014-06-26T19:40:56.988-04:00June 26 @ Chestnut Ridge FarmsMy very selective garden vegetables are growing.

I have a very tiny one this year. Hopefully it will get bigger next year. Same old plastic cover, I'm trying to kill the grass and I will put the potatoes there when fall comes, I hope.

This is what it looks like in real life. I did not till the ground and I only planted a few things I needed to make salsa & sweet relish. The ground is very rocky. It will take me awhile to remove all the rocks on it.

DH decided not to have chicken this year because the fencing are not up. He don't want to put it up because his lawn mower is broken, however, he is not doing anything to fix it.

Plus, every weekend we seems to go to my inlaws house to clean and pick-up things that are not garbage. My big kitchen can never be finish because the spackle is not on the walls yet. FIL kept on insisting that one of his granddaughter will be able to do it. I can do it too, but with all the work around the house and cooking for everyone, it seems impossible. I hate being bother in the middle of work.

That granddaughter is no where to be found, well we know where she lives, but, she never answer her phone. So, I count it as a loss. They only come around when they needed something. It doesn't matter if their family needed something.

And being still cold in my area, I cannot get myself to go outside and start my vegetable garden. I need to flip the soil in chunks first, before DH can till it. So, until then my potatoes will be dying soon. Ah, life. It's easier to do other things than doing what I am supposed to be doing.

Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-57347118115857579322014-04-01T18:50:00.002-04:002014-04-01T18:50:40.652-04:00A Very Nice DayA real feel of 17.22° C or 63° F (for me). DH and I did a lot today. I picked the sticks/branches around the yard and put them in the pile. I lit them up but since this is the very first nice day, (they are still wet) they burn very slow.

DH fixed his zero turn lawn mower and was able to cut the acre lot in-front of our house. When he moved to the acre yard where I wanted to put my vegetable garden, (he cut about more than 1/4) the mower broke again.

Now he's outside using the other lawn mower to pull the other back closer to the house. Poor DH, more work for him.

Oh yea, the ground is still frozen.Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-4936323756115018152014-03-04T13:09:00.001-05:002014-03-04T13:09:30.794-05:00It's the Furnace Fault :DThis bucket used to be next to our furnace in the basement. Well, I actually put it next to the fireplace cleaning opening. DH decided that we are not going to use the fireplace in one of the house living area because his mother will be difficult to deal with just going to their side of the house. So, he decided to get a furnace instead that will run in wood and coal. It sits in the basement for a month or so, then he decided to work on it and gather woods to do the first burning.

I never thought he will actually continue burning wood and coal in them without the duct work. Well, he did and I moved this bucket of spuds to the other side thinking it will not get warm there. But I was very wrong. When the furnace is burning very well, it gets up to 70°F in the basement. And he always have the lights on down there.

Yesterday, (March 3, 2014) he tag-a-along with one of his friend to go to Reading PA and I was left in charge of the furnace. Making sure it stays lit and have enough coal. Whilst waiting for a few minute to air the furnace I do things down there, i.e. sweeping, putting things in order, and looking around. And this is what I saw. I notices the brown paper bag in top of this bucket was pushed up. I was dark and I turned the lights on. The spuds sprouts is pushing the bag off. I'm not even ready to dig outside because we still have about 1 1/2 foot of snow still waiting to get melted.

I wonder what will happen if I cut off the sprouts and put them inside the brown paper bag then move them inside the big shower room in the basement. That was the coldest part of the basement right now because there is door and we left it close. If we don't get warm weather next week, I think I have to do it.

So far I have 2 things waiting to get put in the ground. Potatoes and lemongrass.Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6127844730238593459.post-87410576708630726032014-02-23T09:50:00.001-05:002014-02-23T09:50:32.324-05:00Around Chestnut Ridge Farm

We finally had a break with winter weather this week. I can see the ground in our driveway. And the snow pile taller than me, is now shorter than I. However, we hadn't shovel our propane delivery truck driver path to our propane tank. Hopefully we can do it today, but not too worry. That means we got less bill to pay if he doesn't deliver anything. We have a wood/coal furnace in the basement to keep us warm enough. Not comfortable but warmer than the outside temperature.
While driving around Friday, I got excited seeing a few local farmers market starting to look lively. I can't wait to start my new vegetable garden also. I might have some company in the garden this year, DH friends wanting to plant a spot in our clearing, which we don't mind. More vegetable choices if we plan on whom will plant what.
And for starters, here is my lemon grass waiting for me to plant in our rich soil. Yes, I finally got them to roots in water. Patience was the key. I almost let it die, because I stop putting water in the jar. However, when I notice a root emerging, I caught it pretty fast and added water. I got very lucky.

By the way, the lemon grass was dark brown color at the bottom already when I put it in water. I think it took about a month to show the roots. I can't wait to use them in my chicken stew.
She was very nice for two days. After that, she was back to her grumpy, psychotic self again. She still drives everyone nuts and eaves dropping on every conversation, and wants to always the center of attention. When she gets tired you better not be around because she will find reasons to throw you out of the house.

Other family member thinks FIL is a lot better looking after moving back in with us. He got his own office to hide every time his wife turned psychotic, and doesn't know reality from imagination.

Well, that's all for now. If you look on the right side back, we are having a very cold weather. Our side of the house is looking better everyday. I do not go crazy with fixing and painting. I only do it when my children lessons permit. Have a great last day of November. I can't wait for warmer temperature and longer sunshine.Nedekcirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06825731342323188657noreply@blogger.com0
