Third Time

This is the 3rd time we emptied our home made fertilizer since we started. Our garden is still frozen and I think this is the coldest month for winter so far. Anyway, the only thing we don't put in our food scraps are any kind of meat and milk products. I don't think what we collected this year will be not enough. However, if we keep on doing this, eventually we will have enough for the whole garden. Maybe by next winter our garden dirt will have enough.

I live in a condo but have an area that I plant flowers in every year. The dirt, for some reason, has a lot of sand mixed with fairly dark soil. Would this type of fertilizer help in this type of soil and garden?

Hi Martha, thanks for stopping by. These will eventually turn into soil, so I will say yes.

Hi I'm very interested in your gardening tips. Have had a garden for the last two years. Just moved to Alabama so maybe not this year.

Have a good one

Like you I compost pretty much everything I can. The only thing you need to be wary of is citrus fruit as it is too acidic.

@ cooking lady, thanks for visiting.

@ rumpleteazer, thanks for the tip, I can use a lot of it because I am still learning myself. We don't consume much citrus fruit, only when someone gives it to us so, no worry there. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for dropping by my site. I too live in an area that suffers from severe winter cold and can relate to having to wait until it gets warm before planting. I am used to a warmer climate so when I see everything die off (or take their winter nap) I get to wishing I were back home.

We do the same thing with our vegetable waste here, and I used to make compost back home. It's great to recycle and to not rely completely on purchasing soil.

Love your site and will be back for more.
